Built for an exhibition, this is a mini representation of our Hong Kong old-style zone. Some of the districts here are not modernized yet, with this kind of vernacular buildings filled along the streets. A combination of both Chinese and Western styles, these buildings were developed mainly during the post-war period.
There are 3 styles shown in the build. The "legged" version literally stands on the pavement; cantilevered one at the corner; and the typical set-back type with smaller windows. You can also see modernized, renovated ground floor, which is a florist. Under the legged one is the exchange shop. The other side is the entrance to the upper private flats.
On the roof, the old people spend their relaxing time with their pets. They dry fish on the wires and take care of the small potted plants. Numerous telecommunication antennas are installed near the corner for the best reception.
On the street, an old lady picks up unwanted paper boxes and cartons in exchange of little money. A light truck, commonly seen in HK, parks on the side for loading. The grey box on the pavement is a power meter.
Quite challenging for me as I usually do modern houses. Building this is fun, with the research and careful study of details. Enjoy!
