My entry to the official LEGO competition at HKACG 2015, which is shortlisted and exhibited at HKCEC from 24-28/7. The topic is "Ideal Home", and I created my dream house "S Villa" for me and my wife.
The concept comes from the idea of "inner space". When we talk about home, we think about a structure, but what we really want at home is actually an outdoor space, like a little garden or a light well. The design starts from there, with all the rooms surround it. I place the dining room and bedroom, which require a quieter area, away from the street, with the circulation space near the entrance acting like a buffer zone to insulate noise from outside.
The big black box is my studio, in which you can find my desk and personal theater (as my living room has no TV, and the garden is the main focus). The bottom of this box is recessed to allow a car park area. Going up is the bedroom with toilet, and finally a little small swimming pool on the roof top.
The use of colors also has a reason. It uses black, grey and white as the building color scheme, while it is very colorful inside with the decorations and furniture. The idea is that a building focuses on its massing and lines, while the colors come from our lives. With people, the space is then beautiful.
This minimalistic house is "compatible" with the modular building street, and is certainly one of the most thoughtful buildings I created. A house is simple yet functional and practical, and if it is constructed in reality, it is really a liveable space.
